Gatlinburg’s Five Best Non-Chain Restaurants

Hey, you’re a food snob. We get that, and it’s okay! Cuisine snobbery is welcome, and even encouraged in this Tenseness mountain town. And if you’re in the mood to satisfy your culinary desires, we’ve compiled a list of Gatlinburg’s five finest non-chain restaurants based on critic reviews and patron feedback. We honed our taste to fine cooking and enjoyable atmosphere, but we also selected establishments that don’t require a credit check at the front door. So put aside your budget concerns, eat-up, and enjoy your visit to the Gateway of the Great Smoky Mountains!

#5: Park Grill
Exquisite dining with a view. Enjoy your mountain vista from this rustic stone and pine timber lodge. Reload from their world class salad bar before feasting on a juicy, hickory grilled Filet Mignon. Local families have long made The Park Grill their own tradition.

#4: Pancake Pantry
Pancakes? On a top 5 list? Absolutely! If the quaint, century old brick and copper atmosphere isn’t enough to entice you, then how ’bout locally churned butter, freshly whipped cream, and warm buttermilk flapjacks. Austrian apple-walnut, peach delight, whole wheat, apricot lemon… and we’re just getting started.

#3: Best Italian
Alright, so “Smokey Mountains” and “Italian” might be strange bedfellows, but you’ve got to try their butter garlic rolls, veal parmigiana, or spaghetti and meatballs. Thirty years of local tradition speak for themselves, and the old-country style atmosphere is true Italian authentic.

#2: Smoky Mountain Brewery
Sports, fun, spicy wings, and micro brew. But it’s way more than your average bar and grill. Think quantity! They sell their wings by the pound. Feast on fire grilled pizza, slow roasted chicken, or Smokey Mountain BBQ ribs. And don’t forget the variety of micro brews which change by the season.

#1: The Peddler Steakhouse
We saved the most intimate for last. Have your steak custom-cut table side and grilled over Tennessee hickory charcoal, or enjoy the fresh Rainbow trout garnished with their own lemon dill sauce. Put please, save room for their famous home cooked deserts! With a smaller dining room looking into mountain woods, the whole Peddler experience is one you won’t forget.

No matter your flavor, we know you’ll find a restaurant in Gatlinburg to match: pancakes, Italian, hot-wings, or a variety of timeless mountain steak houses. Come! Food snobs are welcome.
